Free comments documentation

Overview

Free comments is an innovative, social internet extension, a revolutionary platform designed to facilitate genuine, respectful, and free exchanges of opinion without the interference of commercial interests or automated systems. We strive to create a digital space where all voices can contribute to a vibrant and inclusive dialogue. Free comments is currently shipped as Google chrome extension that adds a powerful tool with several functionalities to any sites:
  1. 1) Ability to send signed comments to different content anonymously
  2. 2) Ability to send comments to different content with your signature and identity prove (via provided website property)
  3. 3) Ability to create your own feed with notifications based on content eligible for free comments.
It also provides custom integration with several social networks (Facebook, Linkedin, VK) for more convenient and advanced user experience. Important!!! Be aware of free version limitations:
  1. * Regular Facebook or LinkedIn users won’t be able to see your free comments. Invite your friends and partners to join Free Comments World and Unlock a new level of communication freedom.
  2. * Max number of free comments per post - 100
  3. * Your comments will be stored on server during 1 month and removed after that period
  4. * Max number of open connections to server per IP - 100. Keep that in mind especially if you are using VPN.
The most common solution for any type of problem that you can experience is:
  1. * Refresh web page
  2. * Remove Free comments integration
  3. * Clean browser cache
  4. * Restart browser
  5. * Re-install Free comments extension
Repeat step 2 before steps 3-5. Add Free comments integration after steps 2-5. Take the next step if the previous one doesn’t work only.

This is just a few examples, the real application is only limited by your imagination. All configurations and actions are designed to be intuitive and user-friendly. Therefore, we will only cover specific advanced features in the manual. Arbitrary sites demo provides a simple example how you can integrate Free comments with any website of your choice.

Free comments properties

  • Nick name - this name will be displayed near every your comment. You can choose any name.
  • Avatar - for now you can select avatar from a predefined list only.
  • Signature - this is one of the most outstanding features of Free comments
At Free comments, users have the freedom to choose any nickname, which can lead to multiple users sharing the same name, like "Sub Zero," in a single thread. This can make it challenging to distinguish which comments are yours versus another user with the same nickname. To solve this, we introduced the Free Comments Signature (FCS). What is Free Comments Signature (FCS)? The FCS is a unique character sequence that is converted into a hash code and appended to each of your comments. Similar to a digital signature for documents, the FCS ensures your comments are uniquely identifiable. How it works:
  1. * Hash Conversion: Your signature is transformed into a hash.
  2. * Readable Phrase: This hash is then converted into an easily readable and memorable phrase.
  3. * Uniqueness: Even a single character change in the signature results in a completely different phrase.
Security and Best Practices:
  1. * Treat Like a Password: Handle your signature with the same care as a password.
  2. * Strong Signature: For enhanced security, use a random combination of letters, numbers, and special symbols.
  3. * Sharing Your Signature: You can share your signature securely with trusted individuals, allowing them to verify your comments are indeed yours.
By utilizing the Free Comments Signature, you can maintain your identity across comments and ensure your contributions are clearly recognized, even in threads with multiple users sharing the same nickname.
  • Website - while using a nickname can provide anonymity, there are times when you may want to reveal your true identity. To publicly and credibly declare who you are, simply provide a link to a relevant website. This could be a profile on a social network, a company website, or any other page that accurately represents you. To verify that the website belongs to you, add your unique Free comments signature to a visible section of the site, such as a Facebook status or the "About" section. Ensure that only you have the authority to modify the content of this website to maintain its credibility. Other users will be redirected to your website when they click on your avatar.
  • Allow dynamic link resolving - this feature is currently experimental and designed to work exclusively with Facebook. Facebook uses plenty of dynamic links and content on its web page, so it can be very challenging to extract content id that can be used as an anchor for free comments. For some posts the only option is opening in a new tab with a callback to the main page. That approach can be resource consuming and affect general browser performance so enable it only if you are really interested in commenting on content that cannot be resolved without those complications.

Free comments integration

Once you fulfill all required fields and click the 'Start' button, Free Comments integration will be applied to the active browser tab, resulting in the following user interface enhancements:
  1. * Toolbar Display: The Free Comments toolbar will appear.
  2. * Extended Context Menu: The main browser context menu will include Free comments actions.
  3. * Content Marking: All content eligible for Free Comments will be highlighted with a special hint.
These changes enhance your browsing experience by integrating Free Comments seamlessly into your current web session.

Free comments hints

Free comments hint (FCH) - special visual element that marks content eligible for free comments. It shows the current number of added free comments and link to content as a tooltip. There are two types of FCH:
  • FCH for post, on click: show Free comments widget embedded into current page
    Image
FCH for other types of content, on click: open content in a new modal browser tab with embedded Free comments widget
    Image
Important!!! Don’t open too many modal tabs at the same time. Every tab required a dedicated connection to the server and the maximum number of open connections is limited. Also it is pretty resource consuming and can impact your browser’s performance. With the current version you can comment on posts and user profiles in all available social networks, on other content - on Facebook only. If a hint to some post was not added automatically you can try to discover it manually. Just press the ‘Shift’ key and click on the post area.

Free comments toolbar

Free comments toolbar (FCT) - special panel that facilitates Free comments integration. Some useful tips:
Image
  1. * FCT is always displayed if Free comments integration is enabled
  2. * If FCT is green then connection to server is established, if gray - you are disconnected.
  3. * If you are disconnected more than several minutes try to refresh your page
  4. * Click on FCT to open Free comments feed
  5. * Press ‘Ctrl’ key and Click on FCT to refresh comment counters of all Free comments hints
  6. * Press ‘Shift’ key and move FCT with mouse if it overlaps some important page content or just for fun
These changes enhance your browsing experience by integrating Free Comments seamlessly into your current web session.

Free comments feed

If you want to follow some post and receive updates about new free comments then add it into your own Free comments feed (FCF) by means of dedicated main context menu item
Image
After that you can click on FCT and see newly added post
Image
Some useful tips:
  1. * FCF stored in browser memory and cannot be shared between browsers/devices
  2. * Every site has its dedicated FCF, so your Facebook post won't be mixed with Linkedin or VK posts
  3. * Only post can be added into FCF
  4. * You cannot add more than 100 posts into your feed
  5. * If new free comment was added to post from your feed FCT will show flames and number of new unread free comments
  6. * You can always clean your FCF by means of a dedicated item from the main browser context menu.
Important!!! Use the ‘Copy link to post’ menu item if you want to add post into FCF.
